TOBIS Film

Susanne Behnke is Head of Literary and German Acquisitions at TOBIS, one of the leading independent film distributors in Germany. After University studies in English and Spanish Language, Literature and Culture in England and Germany, she worked in international press and photo agencies and in local TV before joining the International Acquisitions team at TOBIS in 1998. She was actively involved in the acquisitions of renowned films and later classics such as BREAD AND TULIPS, TALK TO HER, THE PIANIST, L'AUBERGE ESPAGNOLE, BROKEN FLOWERS, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, and many others. When the new production unit at TOBIS was created in 2016, she took on a development position there and soon specialised in literary content, book market and German film. The position of Head of Literary and German Acquisitions was created in 2024 and forms TOBIS' vital bridge between book and film.

Since its founding in 1971, TOBIS has distributed over 400 national and international titles to more than 250 million moviegoers throughout the DACH region. These include classics such as THE FIFTH ELEMENT, HANNIBAL or the BAD MOMS franchise as well as Oscar-nominated and -awarded films such as AMADEUS, THE PIANIST, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, 12 YEARS A SLAVE or most recently THE FATHER.

In addition to the traditional distribution of international films in the areas of cinema, home entertainment and VoD as well as film rights trading in German-speaking countries, the production of German feature films and national and international co-productions has increasingly become a focus of TOBIS' activities.
