It’s often good to be alone, and there are quite a few things you can do alone: sit in a tree and look around, read, make noise or stand on one leg. But no matter how many times you try, you can’t tickle yourself. It just doesn’t work! And there is something much more beautiful that you can’t do alone either. And for that the children even forget about tickling …

“It puts physical contact in the foreground and encourages children to play, copy and try things out. In play they learn that although it is often good to be alone, there are many beautiful things that can only be experienced together.”

Kali kann Kanari / Kali Can Canary

On the balcony of the apartment where Lisbeth and Kali live with their mother, with Grandma Magda and Grandpa Udini,...

On the balcony of the apartment where Lisbeth and Kali live with their mother, with Grandma Magda and Grandpa Udini, a cockatiel is sitting and pecking popcorn. The children bring it into the house, because (of course) they want to keep it. But that’s not so easy. It turns out that the cockatiel has escaped from a supervised flat-sharing community for young people. And that’s where Kentucky, Lisbeth’s archenemy from her class, lives.

From then on, nothing feels right anymore: what Kentucky tells everyone about his family is obviously not true. Mika, Lisbeth’s best friend, suddenly becomes friends with Kentucky and Lisbeth feels betrayed. Dad works as an Asian noodle box. But, as often in life, opening up to each other helps: Lisbeth and Mika find out, how important their friendship is to them, but that they can also include others. And Lisbeth realises that she feels sympathy for Kentucky, even if that's not the most convenient thing to feel right now.

“Very, very funny, incredibly well told and linguistically a dream!”

Johannes Kößler, ORF Good Morning Austria

“A moving and stirring story about friendship and enmity.”

The mouse is planning something big: she wants to bake a cake for the crocodile as a birthday present. She has set her sights high – after all, the cake has to be big and the mouse is small. And besides, it has to be the best cake in the world. Fortunately, the bear helps out. In the end, the dough is not quite perfect and so the mouse gathers together all the goodies she can think of. She's so loaded up that she can't see anything and trips over the cord of the mixer. Everything ends up in the dough. Oh my! What a silly mistake. The mouse is furious. She doesn’t want to have anything to do with the cake anymore. She doesn’t want anything at all anymore.

But the bear puts the dough in the oven, loads the finished cake, including the mouse, onto his motorcycle and off they go to the birthday party. The mouse is anxious: will anyone eat her cake?

A fast-paced story which shows that mistakes sometimes lead to an unexpectedly positive outcome; amazing illustration technique that combines the traditional look of linocut with digital processing.

Everything around him is still the same as before: everyday life with his mother, the routes through the city, school, classmates, the theater group. But Felix has changed since his swimming coach crossed a line that no one is allowed to cross without consent. Felix was blindsided and since then he has felt dirty, worthless and unlovable. The memory haunts him like a monster that appears when he least expects it. Felix is desperate to keep what has happened a secret – he feels ashamed. He withdraws from the people around him and when friends get close to him, he becomes aggressive. Only with his schoolmate Alva and with his grandparents does he feel safe. But the monster won’t rest until Felix’s secret comes to light.

“An insanely good and important book for young people that addresses a difficult subject superbly and incredibly sensitively.”

But this time he takes it too far and causes chaos in the village: The snow golem he built devastates the entire village! To remain undiscovered and escape punishment, Nano and and his best friend Maffi hide in a boat that suddenly drifts out to sea without a rudder! The two are stranded on an island, which is not as deserted as it seems at first. Because when it gets dark, the familiar Minecraft monsters crawl out of the caves. Sara’s on holiday, and it’s raining nonstop. Wherever is all that water coming from? Leon jumps off the one-meter diving board – or does he? Water can be extremely painful. Friedrich is interested in the stream near his school. Nora wonders if there is water in the desert. But that’s not all. Why do tears taste salty? What happens during a christening?
