Birgit Weyhe, born in Munich in 1969 and raised in east Africa, studied illustration and literature at university. She now lives and works in Hamburg as a freelance comic illustrator. Her main focus is on graphic novels, for which she has been nominated for several awards in Germany, France and Japan. In 2015 and 2016, her graphic novel Madgermanes received the two most prestigious German comic book awards. She has been delivering international workshops for the Goethe-Institut since 2009, and has been a visiting lecturer at various German and American universities since 2012.
