Frankfurt Forum: Afghanistan today

Talk

One year after the fall of Kabul and the return of the Taliban, the journalists Waslat Hasrat-Nazimi and Wolfgang Bauer, will discuss about the current situation in Afghanistan.

Programme

Since summer 2021, after decades of war and 20 years after the invasion of international troops, Afghanistan is once again in the hands of the Taliban. The two journalists Waslat Hasrat-Nazimi and Wolfgang Bauer, each who has a very individual relationship to this country, provide very up-to-date insights in their books. One is a story about the lives of Afghan women, the other a report of an extraordinary journey. And behind both books are questions about the mistakes of recent years. What went so wrong that history seems to be repeating itself? And how do Western views have to change in order to reach a better understanding?

Waslat Hasrat-Nazimi Die Löwinnen von Afghanistan. Der lange Kampf um Selbstbestimmung (The Lionesses of Afghanistan. The long struggle for self-determination and acceptance), Rowohlt Verlag 2022

Wolfgang Bauer Am Ende der Straße. Afghanistan zwischen Hoffnung und Scheitern (At the End of the Road. Afghanistan between Hope and Failure), Suhrkamp Verlag 2022
