It’s bucketing down outside. And inside there’s nothing left to do. It’s as boring as boring can be! Moritz and the Moody Monster have no idea what do to with themselves.

Julia Boehme was born in Bremen in 1966. She studied literature and music, subsequently working as an editor for children’s television. One day she remembered that as a child she had wanted to become a writer. How could she have forgotten that? So right then and there she decided to do nothing but write from now on. She has lived in Berlin ever since then, doing what she loves to do most: She writes children’s books.

Franziska Harvey was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1968, but spent much of her childhood in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She studied graphic design in Wiesbaden, with emphasis on illustration and calligraphy. She now lives in Frankfurt. She has worked for many years mainly as an illustrator, and her unmistakably affectionate and witty watercolours have illustrated well over a hundred children’s books, including many bestsellers.

There’s a mumbling rumbling sound in the forest. And it carries as far as the cosy comforts of Squirrel’s nest high in his tree. What’s it all about? And who’s making it? Bear, of course! Andreas H. Schmachtl was born in 1971; he studied fine arts, German literature and English literature. Since 2007 he has applied all his love for detail and his characters to narrating and illustrating enchanting and adventurous stories about mice, rabbits, hedgehogs and other small creatures the welfare and protection of which means a lot to him.

His books have been published exclusively by Arena Publishing House.

Andreas H. Schmachtl’s illustration style is very British; he includes witty details in his pictures. There is always a lot to discover in his illustrations.

Tanja Voosen works as a full-time can opener for her fat cat Tiger and uses her free hours to write books for children and young people. Judith Kleinschmidt, born in 1977, has worked on diverse film and theater projects – animated films, puppet theater, Spatzenkino (children’s movie theater in Berlin). She currently lives and works in Berlin as an author for children’s media. Sofabanditen (Sofa Bandits) is her first book for children.

Axel Scheffler, born in 1957, lives in London. Beltz & Gelberg have published not only all his picture books (including The Gruffalo, created with Julia Donaldson), as well as many others.
