Eva Menasse in dialogue with Wlodek Goldkorn and Moni Ovadia
At first glance, Dunkelblum is a village like many others in the Austrian Alps, inhabited by a small community. It is the summer of 1989: Lowetz returns from the capital to attend his mother's funeral; a group of students restores an old Jewish cemetery; a retired American professor treats himself to a holiday in Europe and is referred to as “the foreigner”. And a refugee from the GDR searches for his family. Before the Berlin Wall falls and the future opens up, they must all face the past, the years of war, the decisions made and their devastating consequences.
