German Stories At Salone del Libro di Torino

18 – 22 May 2023

In advance of Italy’s Guest of Honour appearance at Frankfurter Buchmesse 2024, we are inviting four great German-language authors to the international book fair in Turin: Salone del Libro di Torino.

Esther Kinsky, Eva Menasse, Antje Rávik Strubel and Andreas Weber will talk about wounds – in the Earth and in the souls of people whether due to earthquake-related tremors or historical guilt – as well as about the struggle for personal integrity and the art of making compromises.

All events will be accompanied by German-Italian interpreters.

The Turin International Book Fair or Salone del Libro di Torino is the oldest and largest book fair in Italy, held annually in mid-May in Turin. It attracts more than 1,000 exhibitors and 175,000 visitors every year. 30 event forums invite you to participate in lively debates and talks.

Andreas Weber talks with Maura Gancitano and Andrea Colamedici

Whether in one’s private life, business competition or political action, to be unforgiving is seen as a sign of strength and a sure recipe for success. Those who compromise are considered weak. Andreas Weber turns this perspective on its head: coming to a compromise does not mean just accepting what’s dictated from above, but rather to take everyone’s needs into consideration and to act accordingly. Compromises are by no means negative, but fundamental prerequisites for a balanced and fulfilling life, as well as drivers for true change that enriches the world.
