Book to Screen Brussels: Behind the scenes of a project in development

Discussion
French

Transforming a young adult novel or graphic novel into a film requires a significant amount of translation work: transforming writing into a visual universe, rethinking the pace of the narrative, and sharing the creative process between author, director and producer. The meeting will highlight these key stages, from artistic development to legal issues, by giving a voice to those who are involved in them. It aims to provide a demanding, practice-based forum for discussion, to better understand the logic and challenges specific to these projects, and to provide guidance for those who wish to embark on an adaptation process.

Programme

Behind the scenes of a project in development: Vol-au-Vent, a feature-length animated film adapted from the children's novel Brussailes, published in 2022 by Hachette and reissued in 2024 in paperback format.

Discussion with: Éléonore Devillepoix, author of the original work and screenwriter of the adapted work, Margot Reumont, director and founding member of ABRACA, Alice Failla, graphic author, and David Grançon, junior producer at Take Five.

Moderator: Charlotte Boschen (Frankfurt Book Fair)
