The Heinrich Böll Foundation sees itself as part of the ‘green’ political movement that developed beyond the Federal Republic of Germany in opposition to traditional socialist, liberal and conservative politics. Its fundamental principles are ecology and sustainability, democracy and human rights, self-determination and justice. The foundation attaches particular importance to gender democracy, i.e. social emancipation and equal rights for men and women. It is committed to equal rights for ethnic and cultural minorities and the social and political participation of immigrants. Finally, it advocates non-violence and an active peace policy.
