Ralph Dutli

Ralph Dutli (*1954) is a Swiss novelist, poet, essayist, biographer, audiobook author and translator. He studied Romance and Russian languages and literature in Zurich and at the Sorbonne in Paris. Today, he lives as a freelance writer in Heidelberg, Germany. His main interests are modern Russian literature and medieval French poetry. One of his major works is the ten-volume annotated edition of his translation of Russian poet Osip Mandelstam (1891-1938). In the Czech Republic, the author published Soutines letzte Fahrt (2013) [Engl. Soutine's Last Journey], a novel about a Belarusian painter of Jewish origin set in occupied France in 1943. Over time, his cultural-historical-literary triptych of “small cultural histories” has also been published in Czech translation: Lied vom Honig: Eine Kulturgeschichte der Biene (2012) [Engl. Song of Honey: A Cultural History of the Bee], Liebe Olive: Eine kleine Kulturgeschichte (2013) [Engl. Love Olive: A Small Cultural History] and Das Gold der Träume: Kulturgeschichte eines göttlichen und verteufelten Metalls (2020) [Engl. The Gold of Dreams: Cultural History of a Divine and Demonised Metal]. The author will personally present the last book of this trilogy in Prague.
