Haruna Honcoop

Haruna Honcoop is a Czech-Japanese documentary film director and dramaturge of the Japanese film festival Eigasai. Her documentaries generally explore themes related to architecture, urbanism of cities, politics vs. culture, as well as literature. Her 2017 film Na věčné časy – Relikty architektury komunistické éry (Engl. Built to Last – Relics of Communist-Era Architecture) screened at many festivals around the world and won an award at the ArchFilm festival in Lund, Sweden. She is currently completing the film Olympijský mezičas (Engl. Olympic Halftime) about urbanism in the Olympic cities of Tokyo, Beijing, Paris and Athens, which will premiere in 2023. She is also working with the publishing house Větrné mlýny and the Month of Authors' Readings in Brno on the preparation of the documentary Varða about Iceland through the eyes of contemporary Icelandic writers and is developing a draft film about European-Taiwanese political relations.
