Daniel Wisser (1971) is an Austrian writer and musician who has lived in Vienna since the age of 28. He has published novels, short stories, essays and political commentaries. He published his first "novel in 45 stanzas" in 2003 called Dopplergasse acht [Engl. Dopplergasse eight]. He seeks out socially serious topics and writes about them with unparalleled candour and humour, which he demonstrates particularly well in Königin der Berge [Engl. Queen of the Mountains], a novel about the life of a man in his forties suffering from multiple sclerosis. The novel, which won the Austrian Book Prize 2018, has also been published in Czech under the title Královna hor, translated by Magdalena Štulcová. The author also takes aim at social taboos in his 2021 novel Wir bleiben noch [Engl. We’ll remain], in which he uses a family story to show the paths and pitfalls of social democracy in Austria. Is he trying to provoke, or could the entire democratic world learn from his work? How will readers react to Wisser's new book, Die erfundene Frau [Engl. The Invented Woman], which is now out?
