Peter Waterhouse
Poet, Prose writer and Translator

Peter Waterhouse, born 1956 in Berlin, lives and works in Vienna. He studied German and English in Vienna and Los Angeles. He is a poet, prose writer and translator (among others, he has translated poems by Michael Hamburger, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Roberta Dapunt and Andrea Zanzotto).  For years, Waterhouse has been running "Versatorium - Verein für Gedichte und Übersetzen", a platform for young translators, academics and artists to work together on literary translation and to reflect theoretically on the translation process. His most recent production consists exclusively of prose texts, which are difficult to classify in terms of genre, as evidenced by the extensive 2006 prose volume Krieg und Welt [Engl. War and World], which combines essay, poetry, narrative, as well as linguistic-philosophical writing, where autobiographical and fictional elements are closely interwoven. Recent publications: Der Fink. Einführung in Das Federlesen [Engl. The Finch. Introduction to Feather-Reading – 2016], Die Auswandernden [Engl. The Immigrating – 2016], Equus. Wie Kleist nicht heißt [Engl. Equus. As Kleist is not called – 2018].
