Translates from German to Bengali
Works as a translator. Teaches also German Language at Jadavpur University as a visiting faculty.

What are your main focuses and goals?

This is my first visit to the renowned Frankfurt Book Fair. I hope to meet translators from other parts of the world and learn more about their works; to get the chance to establish contacts with German publishers from Germany, Switzerland and Austria, publishing books on gender issues and migration; to share my views on challenges I meet as a translator translating a culture, which is not always easy to project to readers from South Asia; to meet authors working on gender issues and migration.

What do you hope to get out of the Frankfurt International Translators Programme?

Frankfurt Book Fair is an international affair. Such a podium is important for translators like me. It gives me a chance to learn more about the nitty gritty issues of translation, meet authors like Ulrike Draessner, Juli Zeh, Katarin Poljadin and get acquainted with their new books. I also hope to meet important publishers from Germany, Switzerland and Austria, see the new published books, get in touch with the different funding agencies and gather knowledge on their different programmes. All this is hardly possible sitting in Kolkata. I would also like to attend discussions on translations, readings by authors, talks, panel discussions and other interesting programmes.
