Carmen-Francesca Banciu is a German and Romanian author. After her literary debut in Romania, she received the International Short Story Prize of the City of Arnsberg in 1985; as a consequence, she was banned from publishing until 1990. In 1991, she came to Berlin at the invitation of the DAAD Artists-in-Residence Berlin Program, where she has lived and worked ever since and has written in German since 1993. She has received numerous awards and fellowships, and her books have been translated into several languages. In 2018, her novel Lebt wohl, Ihr Genossen und Geliebten! was longlisted for the German Book Prize.
