Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach am Main
The Offenbach University of Art and Design (HfG) is an art college run by the State of Hesse. Its history dates back to 1832, when it was founded as a school for craftsmen. Soon afterwards, it became a school of applied arts, teaching craft, artistic and theoretical subjects simultaneously. In 1970, it was transformed into a university-level institution.
Drawing on the educational and research models of the Bauhaus and the Ulm School of Design, the HfG Offenbach practises a forward-looking approach to teaching that relies heavily on individual support and mentorship: art, media and design are taught within a modular study structure.
From the 2022/23 winter semester, the old diploma programme was replaced by eight-semester Bachelor’s and four-semester Master’s programmes. The following degree programmes are offered in the two departments of Art and Design:
Department of Art / Bachelor of Fine Arts / Master of Fine Arts / Master of Fine Arts with a greater emphasis on theory / Department of Design / Bachelor of Arts / Master of Arts
The degree programmes are complemented by a comprehensive range of theory courses in both departments.
In addition, a PhD (Dr. phil.) programme is offered to graduates from the fields of art, design, media or related disciplines.
