Over time, Mina grows critical: are her owl beaks too crooked, are her cats' paws too small? Drawing can be easy, but her own self-critical attitude stands in the way. Flora Sommergrün may be old, but she is full of colour and stories! As the days grow shorter and the world seems quieter, she picks up her colourful yarns and knits her story scarf. Each thread holds a memory from Flora‘s past or a fairytale she has invented. Flora shares these stories with her favorite neighbour, the curious boy Leo, who adds his own adventures to the scarf. And so, the colorful masterpiece keeps growing – a scarf like the world has never seen before!
In this heartwarming book by Juta Tanzer and Jill Goritschnig, knitting becomes a bridge between generations and shows how important it is to share stories.
Juta Tanzer from Linz is a teacher and author. After completing her education and working for many years as a German teacher, she now focuses on writing children's literature, contemporary poetry, and short prose. She is actively involved in promoting reading and creative writing through readings and workshops in schools.
Jill Goritschnig from Salzburg is a freelance illustrator who works in various illustration styles. After earning her master’s degree in Multimedia Art, she has devoted herself passionately to her creative work, illustrating books, magazines, and more.
"A book that skillfully connects the significance of stories, storytelling, and knitting. The author and illustrator have created a picture book in which not only the importance of storytelling comes to life, but also offers a thoughtful look at generations and intergenerational relationships. The illustrations—full of color and wit—complement the text and unfold a positive story that can provide hope in difficult times." Quote from the jury of the award „Fit für die Zukunft“ ("Fit for the Future") in the category „Hoffnung“ ("Hope") by the Deutsche Akademie für Kinder- und Jugendliteratur (German Academy for Children's and Youth Literature)"In this picture book by Juta Tanzer and Jill Goritschnig, stories become a bridge between people and generations—symbolized by the colorful scarf, which creates a vivid contrast to the gray of the apartment building." Simone Kremsberger, from the magazine „büchereiperspektiven 25“, Ausgabe 01/2025, ISSN 1607-7172
