Literary Translation - Challenges in the Present Day
The working conditions for literary translators are becoming increasingly challenging in the age of artificial intelligence. How has the profession changed in recent years, and how are translators adapting their working methods to new technological developments? What impact is AI having on the creative process, on the relationship between translators and publishers, and on the recognition and remuneration of their work?
Eva Zador and Gertrúd Szakal will discuss these questions, moderated by Lídia Nadori.
The discussion will explore how literary translators deal with the opportunities and risks presented by AI, including questions of quality, authorship, copyright and the value of human creativity. What skills will translators need in the future, and how can the specific contribution of literary translation remain visible in an increasingly automated publishing industry? Above all, the event will ask whether literary translation is still an attractive and sustainable profession for the next generation, and what needs to change to ensure that it remains so.
