Presentation of "Amikor Jézus a Hortobágyon járt" ("Als Jesus in die Puszta kam") and "Was noch kommt" by Gábor Fónyad
Amikor Jézus a Hortobágyon járt: Gábor Fónyad's anti-hero is not a particularly religious man; he is not one of those who seek to put the world to rights, and he certainly cannot be called a saint. Yet he is singled out by a Hungarian sect, which regards it as a sensational discovery that it has found the Messiah who has returned amongst us. Ludwig avoids conflict, so the simple Viennese shop assistant, whom the "ancient Hungarians" regard as their Saviour, becomes increasingly entangled in a situation that seems hopeless. The novel shows how little can separate truth from madness, faith from fanaticism, and the enthusiastic supporter from the passive collaborator.
Was noch kommt: The protagonist of another Fónyad novel, Max, is grappling with different problems: he is confronted with a midlife crisis while on a family holiday. The audience can hear an extract from the book - which is not yet available in Hungarian - read by the author himself, in a translation by László Győri.
The reading will be held in Hungarian. The Hungarian translation of the excerpts from What Comes Next was prepared by László Győri.
