Thomas Mann's "Joseph and His Brothers" in the 21st Century

Workshop
Hungarian

European literature, its images and patterns are connected in countless ways with stories from the Bible. Major German writers have also deliberately drawn on these timeless narratives. In Joseph and His Brothers, Thomas Mann offers a striking literary treatment of social themes already explored in the famous Old Testament story. Together, the workshop will consider what can be said of the story in the Old Testament, in the 20th century and here and now in the 21st century: "God's plan turned it towards good."
