Every beginning is difficult! Luis realises this too. He would like to go to gymnastics class, but he doesn’t really dare. The gym is huge and the children are still strangers to him. But with his mom’s help and his courage bunny, he manages it just fine. Being brave also means asking for help, saying “no” sometimes, or standing by your feelings. Everyone gets scared now and then – even mom and dad!
An encouraging book with cheerful illustrations: It’s okay not to dare to do something! Courage looks very different!

Anna doesn’t like sharing at all. Most of all, she wants her grandma all to herself during the holidays. But this time, Anna’s cousin Tarek arrives at Grandma’s at the very same time. The two decide to split Grandma exactly down the middle: Anna gets the left half, Tarek the right. So Grandma cooks spaghetti with her right hand while rolling out pizza dough with her left—and promptly falls fast asleep, utterly exhausted, while putting them to bed. That’s when Anna and Tarek realise: together is better than alone.

This book tells the story of two very different 10-year-old boys, Oskar and Fred. One is lively and up for any adventure; the other is quiet and thoughtful after the death of his mother. When Fred moves with his family to the neighbourhood where Oskar lives, they bring along an old crocodile, that has already caused trouble. Despite language barriers, the parents quickly become friends. It takes longer for Oskar and Fred, but a trip unites them together. Soon, an anonymous threatening letter appears, posing a danger to the entire housing estate. The start to a secret operation.

They make us smile when they waddle across the ice, and they amaze us when they break diving records and fly through the water like arrows: penguins are not only cool, but also sociable and loyal. They live in large colonies from the tropics to the South Pole. Their standing order is strictly binding. We follow their calls and songs and experience the penguins up close. We accompany them as they hunt, search for mates, and raise their young. An exciting WAS IST WAS nonfiction book for children and one of the few about many children’s favourite animals.

The pressure to function is high, even from a young age. Those who tick differently quickly feel that they don’t belong. People with ADHD/ADD are told to buckle down and work harder. People with autism spectrum disorder are told to stop being so sensitive. However, these days much more is known about how divergent brains work – not imperfectly, just differently! This book takes the reader on a fascinating journey into the world of neurodiversity and makes a passionate plea for taking a positive view of the diversity of our brains.
Kathrin Köller, who is confidently neurodivergent herself, believes that all kinds of brains are useful.
Irmela Schautz loves topics that challenge her as an illustrator. She’s in her element whenever she can dive into research and find creative solutions.

Judith Weber has always been incredibly curious. That’s why she first studied journalism and worked for the taz newspaper, among others, before deciding that she would rather come up with the craziest stories herself. She lives with her family of six in the Ruhr area and is the bane of their crime drama viewing sessions, as she unfailingly predicts who the perpetrator is.

Little yellow Leo was no ordinary bird. He found the chirping and singing of the other birds boring. The same old songs! He preferred to indulge in his daydreams, which unfortunately he couldn’t tell anyone about, especially not the other birds. Because Leo dreamed of a wild cat friend. Leo loved cats.
“I’ll tell the cat about my dreams,” Leo decided excitedly, “she’ll love them!” But when his friendship with the neighbour’s cat didn’t work out so well, Leo set off on a long journey into the jungle. Surely there must be really big, wild cats, for really big, wild dreams. Tigerdreams!
